Oral Medicine and Radiology is the specialty in Dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis and medical management of oral disease and medical disorders that manifest in the oral cavity and jaws. Oral Radiology is the part of this specialty that enables diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial disorders using conventional and advanced imaging methods.

Our department is committed to early diagnosis and medical management of Oral and dental diseases and to train students to become oral physician with excellent diagnostic ability in both clinical and radiological aspects by providing adequate theoretical and evidence based methods.

Mission

Our mission is to provide a holistic and state of the art oral diagnostic centre for patients and to promote education and research among students to achieve core knowledge in this specialty.

Objectives

• Our department is the forefront for screening and early diagnosis of Oral Pre-cancer and cancerous lesions and conditions with necessary chair side and laboratory investigative methods.
• The department is committed in the clinical and radiographic diagnosis, treatment planning and medical management of a wide spectrum of cases such as oral mucosal lesions, autoimmune diseases affecting the oral cavity, Temporomandibular joint disorders, Orofacial pain, medical conditions affecting the oral cavity, salivary gland diseases, odontogenic & non-odontogenic cysts and tumors.
• To raise our students in the field of Oral Medicine and Radiology with appropriate knowledge and skills and this will facilitate them in the diagnosis, prevention and management of Oral and Maxillofacial diseases.
• To promote extensive research in the field of Oral Medicine and Radiology with the available resources.

Services Rendered

• Early screening and chair side investigations for Oral pre-cancer and cancerous lesions.
• Medical management of oral mucosal diseases, temporomandibular joint disorders and orofacial pain.
• The department provides quality, supportive and palliative care for medically compromised and geriatric patients.
• The department renders counseling and medical management for Tobacco cessation in patients with tobacco usage.
• Radio diagnosis of Oral and maxillofacial lesions using conventional intraoral and extra oral radiographic methods. The department is also equipped with recent advanced imaging technique such as Cone Beam Computed Tomography scan for appropriate diagnosis for patients.
